Working with multiple files is very common for Data Analysts. For example, if we have two Excel files containing columns with the same name and data type, then we can use the union tool to append the two files together by the column names to create a table containing the rows of data from each file. This can be achieved by connecting the two files to the input anchor of the union tool in the Alteryx workflow example below. The output anchor from the union tool will show the table containing rows of data from each input file.
Alternatively, if the two files both contain a common field, then we can use the join tool. This tool combines the 2 inputs based on the common field to create a final table. In the example below, the two files contain a field called Customer_ID and we can use the join tool to combine the two files by this field to create a single table.
If you have multiple files with a common field, then you can use the join multiple tool. In the example below, we have three files with the common ID field which we can join together by using the join multiple tool.
