This post was originally published on The Data School blog between 2018 and July 2025, before our program was renamed to MIP’s Analytics Career Accelerator. References throughout this article to “The Data School” or “DS” all refer to what is now MIP’s Analytics Career Accelerator. The program, its people, and its commitment to launching outstanding analytics careers remain the same – just under a new name.

Hi guys! Today I want to share a tip about how to turn off the tooltip function in Tableau. Tooltips in Tableau have the purpose to provide more information about the data point. However, some graphs don’t need to have a tooltip for further information.

In the below dashboard, the tooltip shows the redundant number of the Sales Amount. In this case, we want to turn off the tooltip due to the information on the dashboard is completed.

How to turn off the tooltip

Step 1: Go to the Sheet for the graph

Step 2: Click on Tooltip in the Mark Pane

Step 3: Untick Show tooltips

That’s it for a quick tip in this blog.
