Two-Dimensional Control with Slicer

In the realm of analytical panels, space is a premium resource. Thus, optimizing this limited space is crucial, and one effective strategy is to utilize one graph to depict two distinct dimensions. For instance, a single click on “total sale” reveals a comparative analysis between weekday and weekend sales, while selecting “average” displays a comparative average. This blog delves into the methodology behind this efficient use of graphical representation, enabling a more streamlined and informative approach to data analysis.

Step 1: Create a matrix table

In this scenario, our focal points for analysis are the dimensions of total sales and average sales. Consequently, as depicted in the preceding figure, these two distinct dimensions are strategically positioned within the table for streamlined analysis.

Step 2: Create measure value

Employ the switch function to toggle between varying dimensions. It’s imperative to note that the specific name of the dimension incorporated in the formula must align with the name established in step 1 to ensure the formula executes without a hitch.

Step 3:Allocate measure value

Insert the created ‘SwitchTotal/AVG’ measure value into the appropriate field for each graphic. For bar charts, allocate it to the X-axis, and for Cards, place it in the designated field. These precise placements ensure accurate data representation in every graphical element for effective analysis.

Step 4: Create Slicer

Place the Matrix table, formulated in Step One, into the Slicer field.
