My journey into The Data School first week

I started my Data School journey around May – some months before having our first day at the office. I found out about The Data School through a jobs app, and kept it open in my tabs for a couple of days. It wasn’t until a very good friend of mine (already a Data Analyst) sent me the link to The Data School Meet & Greet when I really thought it was a good plan for me.

I came to the Meet & Greet and left excited. On the other hand, I also thought there were too many people with better knowledge in Data and programming than me.  There were heaps of people that day!

Anyway, I HAD to give it a try, what could I lose? So I started learning Tableau a few weeks before the Meet & Greet. I made sure to give it my very best shot for the first presentation. I struggled for a couple of days without being able to choose my dataset. Some days I later found some very interesting data in Argentina’s government website. I thought it was going to be unique but also, I had a good understanding of the context of it. Some days later and right before the deadline, I sent my first presentation which then got me into the second presentation.

Into the Final Presentation

I took some days off to be able to work on my final presentation about Horse Races, which I knew close to nothing about. Also, we were recommended to learn a couple more tools for our presentation. Again, I gave it my best shot, making a more visually attractive Dashboard than the first one, and making it more interactive too.

The day of the final presentation arrived, so I came to the office to present my final Dashboard and I got offered a place in the Data School. I couldn’t have been happier.

First Week

Now after finishing the first week, I’m really happy I made the effort to be here. Great coaches and colleagues make coming in here every day feel like I’m in the right place. I wish I knew everything I learned in the first week to create my first dashboards; parameters, context filters, pre-attentive attributes and a lot more would have helped in my first presentations.
