In Tableau, interactivity is a key feature that allows users to connect with data dynamically. Adding hyperlinks is one of the most effective ways to enhance your dashboard. Hyperlinks enable you to link external websites, documents, or even other Tableau workbooks, offering a seamless and rich experience for the user. Adding hyperlinks can provide greater context to the data, whether you’re linking to a detailed report, external resources, or a related dashboard.
Steps to Insert a Hyperlink in Tableau
A hyperlink can be added to your Tableau dashboard in just a few easy steps. Let’s walk through the process:
Step 1:
Prepare your worksheet. Here, I have created a map generated from Sample- Superstore data.
Step 2:
Create a dashboard with the map worksheet, drag the webpage object, and Click OK. (Yes! Without entering anything)
Step 3:
Now it’s time to turn your worksheet into an interactive link using Tableau’s URL Action feature.
In your dashboard, Go to Worksheet > Actions ( Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+A). In the Action box, make sure the “This sheet” option has been selected. Now click “Add Action” then choose “Go to URL”. ( Refer Image)
Now that opens up another box to configure. Refer to the images below and configure it accordingly.
Click OK.
Voilà! The interactive map is ready. Now, click on any state on the map to view its Wikipedia page.
