In one of my previous blogs, I talked about how to add customer shapes (Link: https://mip.com.au/maliha-athar/spatial-adding-layers-to-the-maps-part-2-custom-icons-on-maps/) In this blog, I will talk about how we can use custom color palette. This can be used for various reasons; you might want to use the exact colors of the company logo, or you want to make a dashboard with your favorite color. I will take you through the steps
First, you can use an online website to extract the HEX code of the color. Hex code are hexadecimal codes for distinct colors used in displaying web pages on world wide web. Hex codes describe and specify those colors. A popular website for extracting hex code is as follows

You can upload a picture click on the specific color and it will tell you the hex code of that color. You can add multiple colors and make your own custom palette with your own custom name. You can make three types of palettes, regular, sequential, and diverging.

You click on the specific color and hit plus. Once you’re done with it, click on “</>” symbol to generate a code to be added to “Preferences” in “My Tableau Repository”. You can find “My Tableau Repository” in the search bar of your computer. Copy this code and follow the below mentioned step.

Once you have the code, go to preferences (open it in word or notepad) Paste the code in between the <workbook> <preferences> like as follows. Save it and close the notepad.

If you have tableau open, you will have to close it first to update tableau with your custom palette. Go to your colors and there will be your custom color pallet.

In this way you can select to make a diverging and sequential pallet and follow the exact same steps to add it in Tableau
