Goals for my time at the Data School

mug with the word begin

This post was originally published on The Data School blog between 2018 and July 2025, before our program was renamed to MIP’s Analytics Career Accelerator. References throughout this article to “The Data School” or “DS” all refer to what is now MIP’s Analytics Career Accelerator. The program, its people, and its commitment to launching outstanding analytics careers remain the same – just under a new name.

My first week at the data school was exciting, busy and challenging. Now that I’ve had a taste of what goes on, I thought it would be a good idea to write out a list of goals I hope to achieve in the next 15 weeks.

Become skilled in Alteryx and Tableau

The chance to learn new things is one of the most exciting parts of being at the data school. In my first week, I went from never having used Alteryx to learning more than I could have imagined. Passing both the Alteryx and the Tableau exams will be one way I can check that I am progressing towards this goal.

Blog Regularly

This is my first ever attempt at blogging and it’s harder than I thought it would be. I aim to blog regularly as practice will help improve my blogging skills. Blogging is valuable as it is a useful tool that enables me to reflect on what I’ve learnt. This will help me understand what I’ve learnt at a deeper level.

Improve my presentation skills

At the data school, we give a presentation every Friday. I am hopeful all this practice will result in improved presentation skills and more confidence. After watching back the video of my first presentation I can already think of lots of ways I can improve.

I can’t wait to get started on achieving these goals and I’m so excited for the next 15 weeks!
