Dashboard Week | Day 3: Design Challenge | KYNDRYL Sales Summary

This post was originally published on The Data School blog between 2018 and July 2025, before our program was renamed to MIP’s Analytics Career Accelerator. References throughout this article to “The Data School” or “DS” all refer to what is now MIP’s Analytics Career Accelerator. The program, its people, and its commitment to launching outstanding analytics careers remain the same – just under a new name.

Dashboard Week – Day 3: The design challenge

Day three of the dashboard week was dedicated to the design aspects of the dashboard. The challenge was to create a well-designed dashboard using the superstore sample data set, get creative in using logos of our choice, and try uncommon fonts. It was a pleasant break from the Insights focused days earlier.

Approach

The dataset contained the sales data with volume, profit, sale and order. I chose to name this superstore “Kyndryl” and create a business dashboard with pleasing colour tones trying “Century Gothic” fonts.

Lessons Learnt

  • Concept of screen alignment and reading patterns of the user
  • Inclusive designing mechanisms, choosing colours that are comfortable for colourblindness
  • Design is not only how good it looks but also how well can it be used.
