Dashboard Week Day 1–Most Popular Event Type and Time

This post was originally published on The Data School blog between 2018 and July 2025, before our program was renamed to MIP’s Analytics Career Accelerator. References throughout this article to “The Data School” or “DS” all refer to what is now MIP’s Analytics Career Accelerator. The program, its people, and its commitment to launching outstanding analytics careers remain the same – just under a new name.

Today we are starting our Dashboard Week! Our task is to connect to the Ticketmaster API, create our own account, obtain an API key, and ensure that we have read the documentation.

I obtained the API key, but I struggled to retrieve the data due to a misunderstanding of the requirements. It is important to understand the requirements before proceeding. Once I understood the requirements, I was able to retrieve the data. The dataset was simple, but I had trouble finding a story and insights.

Then I remembered that I had created a calendar before, and this dataset was suitable for an event calendar. So, I created a calendar where I could select a date to filter events.

Firstly, I created a date calendar and then selected the date and assigned a color.

Secondly, I created a month and year calendar and then selected the month and assigned a color.

I then mapped and filtered the events by the calendar and provided details for each event.

However, I realized that this was not a story, but rather a tool. It was not our task aim, so I need to be more careful before creating the dashboard the next day and avoid making the same mistake again.
