Dashboard Week Day 1 – Customer Service Requests with Resolution Time

Finally, it’s dashboard week!

For our day 1 dashboard, we got this dataset from City of Melbourne website, and it shows the requests for service logged by members of the public relating to waste, graffiti, parking, roads and traffic, parks and trees and assets in a public space.

Data Preparation

This dataset is clean, nothing needs to be done apart from changing a few data types from string type to date type. So, I used Tableau Prep to do the data cleaning. Below is my Tableau Prep Workflow.

Dashboard (Interactive Viz)

I used VIC Suburb/Locality Boundaries to join the provided dataset get the polygon of all the suburbs in City of Melbourne to build the map.

Below are 3 core components to my dashboard:

Map by suburb (coloured by the number of requests lodged)

Service requests efficiency Analysis (evaluated by the average complete days)

Service requests by Category and Subcategory (you can drill down and drill up)

Interesting findings:
  • There are no parking compliance service requests on Sundays. Mainly because all the popular parking service areas (Melbourne CBD, Docklands and Southbank) are free to park in on Sundays.

  • In Kensington, from April 2015 to October 2015, there are 3 requests which all took more than 390 days to complete. There are a few things we need to dig deeper into

 

Reflections

Good aspects:

Nice colour choices to match City of Melbourne logo colours and the dashboard looks clean;

Good timeboxing, I finished the dashboard earlier than expected.

Things to improve:

Use supplementary dataset and bring more layers to the map;

Date filter can be added to make this Viz more interactive.
