Creating a Logo-Chart Visualization in Tableau from Company Logos

Crafting attention-grabbing visualizations often involves transforming a company logo or an image into a compelling visualization that displays data points forming a recognizable shape. Follow these steps to create a logo-chart using Tableau:

Selecting the Logo:

Choose a logo or image suitable for transformation. Choose an image with one or two colors to avoid visual clutter. Using the website: https://apps.automeris.io/wpd/ you can convert the logo into X and Y coordinate data points, resembling a scatter plot.

Converting the Logo into Data Points:

Generate points corresponding to the dataset’s values on the website, ensuring to create slightly more points than the rows that the dataset contains. Download the resulting data as a CSV file.

Preparing the Data:

Open the downloaded file and create a third column with randomly generated numbers. You can accomplish this by using the RAND() function in Excel.

Filter and order all columns based on this new random column to randomize all points in the dataset.

Delete surplus points. For instance, if your dataset comprises 1000 rows and you generated 1001 points, delete the extra row from your point-generated data. Copy and paste only the two columns (X and Y points) into your dataset.

Visualizing in Tableau:

Connect your refined dataset to Tableau.

Plot the X and Y measures, placing the measure that provides the maximum level of detail into the Details on the Marks Card.

Reverse the axis by right-clicking on the axis and then hide all the axis and lines from the vizz so we only have the logo-chart on display.

Customize the Shape and Color as desired, using your logo shape as the reference. Your resulting image will display points representing data, allowing for later filtering to showcase more or fewer points, forming the logo-chart as shown in the example below.

Without the Central Region:

Utilizing an image transformed into a logo-chart visualization like this is sure to captivate the attention of any audience.
