Automating Lists Snapshot using Power Automate: Part 2 – Integration with Power BI

This post was originally published on The Data School blog between 2018 and July 2025, before our program was renamed to MIP’s Analytics Career Accelerator. References throughout this article to “The Data School” or “DS” all refer to what is now MIP’s Analytics Career Accelerator. The program, its people, and its commitment to launching outstanding analytics careers remain the same – just under a new name.

Continued from Part 1 – MS Lists Snapshot using Power Automate

In Part 1, we covered how to capture snapshots of Microsoft Lists using Power Automate. By the end of that process, we had a series of snapshot data files stored in a SharePoint folder. Now, with these snapshots, we can build timeline visuals and analyze trends over time.

Automating Lists Snapshot using Power Automate: Part 2 – Integration with Power BI

Step 7: Import Snapshots into Power BI

  1. Open Power BI and use Power Query to load data.
  2. Set the Source to the folder containing the snapshot CSV files.
  3. (Optional) Apply filters based on File Extension or File Name Contains to limit the dataset.

Step 8: Analyze Snapshot Data

  1. In Power BI, review the dataset to see multiple snapshots differentiated by timestamp.
  2. Use filters to analyze data at a specific point in time.

  3. Create visualizations to track timeline trends based on snapshot data.

By following this structured process, you can automate the extraction, storage, and analysis of Microsoft List snapshots efficiently.
