Documenting your Alteryx workflow is important for several reasons. It helps you understand how your workflow works and make it easier for others to understand and use it. This will be extremely important, especially in a project that requires team collaboration like a client project. Therefore today, here are some tips for documenting your Alteryx workflow.
1. Use descriptive names
Give your tools, inputs, and outputs descriptive names that clearly indicate their function. This will make it easier for you and others to understand the purpose of each element in your workflow. Also, it will help you a lot in debugging when you want to change something in the output of workflow, you will know exactly where to fix it!
2. Add comments
Use the comment tool to add notes and explanations to your workflow. This can help you remember why you did certain things and provide context for others who may be using your workflow.
3. Use containers and colour them by their function
Divide your workflow into different containers, which stand for different processes. Then colour them by their purpose. Usually, I will choose a consistent colour, using the colour palette that Alteryx used to group the tools. For example, Blue stands for preparation tool, etc.
